BATIQA Hotels to Support Nature Conservation in the Derawan Islands and Rote Island through One Earth Movement

Karawang, 17 May 2019 – Welcoming World Environment Day, BATIQA Hotels committed to taking an active role in the Indonesian nature conservation movement, especially in marine tourism areas such as the Derawan Islands and Rote Island.

Amir Tjahaja, the Vice President Director of BATIQA Hotels, stated that the company’s commitment to play an active role in maintaining the stability of the Indonesian ecosystem is realized through the #OneEarthMovement initiative that also received support from YKAN (Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara).

Based on YKAN data, Indonesia is not only the largest archipelagic country but also a country with the marine biodiversity. Amir revealed that the #OneEarthMovement initiative aims to invite the public to be more concerned about Indonesia’s natural sustainability and educate the public about the issue of conscious hospitality.

“Conscious hospitality is a concept that applies hospitality with full awareness, purpose, and wise consideration. As one of the players in the tourism industry, environmental sustainability, especially in marine tourism destinations such as the Derawan Islands and Rote Island, is our concern, “said Amir Tjahaja.

Amir stated that one of BATIQA Hotels’ efforts to reduce environmental damage is to minimize the use of plastic in the hotel operation. Gradually, BATIQA Hotels replaced hotel amenities made from plastic into ecoplas made from cassava flour.

“Unlike plastic, ecoplas decomposes faster. Of course, this will help us to minimize the amount of plastic waste circulating both on land and in the ocean, “Amir said. He added, around 5-13 million tons of plastic waste were carried into the ocean and had a negative impact on the environment.

Amir realized that nature conservation efforts needed collaboration from many parties. He hopes that the wider community can actively participate in the #OneEarthMovement initiative by BATIQA Hotels. “This initiative is not limited for our guest, we welcome more people can be involved in this movement. All the donations will be used for environmental conservation activities in the Derawan Islands and Rote Island,” he said.

“Achievement and all efforts made by YKAN will not succeed without the support of the entire board of trustees, leadership councils, cooperation with the government, donors, ambassadors of nature, and all people who join YKAN. Collaboration with BATIQA Hotels is part of our steps to achieve the mission to keep the earth sustainable,” added Country Director YKAN Rizal Algamar.

There are three ways to support this initiative:

BATIQA Hotels will donate IDR 10,000 / transaction for each reservation made by walk-in reservation. While for each reservation done through the official website www.batiqa.com, the donation given is IDR 5,000 / transaction.

BATIQA Hotels offer ecoplas amenities that hotel guests can buy at the front office. BATIQA Hotels will donate IDR 15,000 from each ecoplas sold.

BATIQA Hotels facilitates people who want to donate directly through a link that can be found at www.batiqa.com.
